Following the suggestion of users of Clover and FreeCommander, I added some code to FoldersPopup v1.2.5 in order to support these two applications.
Clover is an extension of the Windows Explorer, to add multi-tab functionality similar to Google Chrome browser.
FreeCommander is a powerful alternative to the standard windows file manager.
Users can make suggestions or report bugs specific to these apps in this thread.
Hello, I really like your program FoldersPopup, congrats on the great application. I have been looking for a long time for a replacement for Folder Menu which seems unmaintained now and has a few quirks and bugs, and have come pretty much empty handed until I found out about this.
I would love to make a swich but a few things still keep me tied:
I am a FreecommanderXE user, but could not get it to work correctly with this file manager. I tried FoldersPopup 4.0 64bits portable (and a few of the previous versions) with FreeCommanderXE Portable 64bits on a Windows 7 64bits machine and even though Freecommander reacts to FoldersPopup directory change it doesn't correctly navigate to the desired folder. A warning window briefly appears but closes before I can read what it says (probably something along the lines of "System error cant find the ### path"), and some other random folder is opened instead, some times not even on the same drive the correct destination should be.
Also, a small feature request, would it be possible to completely remove the non user created menus from the popup? I find it currently has to much clutter like the "Settings" "Add this folder" and "Donation" buttons which are always visible. I wish one could disable them too, or perhaps make them optionally accessible through the tray menu, or at least allow tucking them under some user created menu with a custom icons.
I would most definitely be willing to make a donation if it hid the donation button.
Also are relative paths supported for icon files, or is the icon extracted once it is selected and saved along with the user settings?
Thanks Duarte
Hi Duarte,
Thank you for your good words.
FreeCommanderXE support was developed a long time ago (v1.2.5), but from my tests, it still works with FP v4 for basic features like "navigate to the selected folder" and "Add this folder". It does not include support to "Open a new window" (Shift+Middle mouse button). So, I could not reproduce your issue.
I must admit that FC support is pretty limited compared to Directory Opus and TotalCommander support. But user communities and developers of these apps have been pretty much involved in making FP work with these file managers.
About "remove the non user created menus from the popup", many special features can be turned off in the Settings/Options. Support freeware is removed for donors.
Finaly, about relative paths, could you explain? Relative to what? In what situation? The folder where FP is running? The FP working folder (under %appdata%)? Or there is something I'm missing.
Thank you again for your input,
Jean
Oops, I got you wrong about relative paths. This is about icons. Info for custom icons saved in the folderspopup.ini file is the file name where the icon is stored (.EXE, .DLL, .ICO) and the index number of the icon in this file.
Sorry for the late response completely forgot about this thread, good to know the donation removes some clutter, only unremovable so far is "FoldersPopup Settings" and "Add this folder".
I am currently on Windows 7 64bits and I believe I have tried in Windows XP 64 before too, and using the middle mouse button over FreeCommanderXE (latest donor version) to navigate to a folder and I always end up in "My Computer".
Anyway, never mind, don't waste your time trying to fix these minor things keep up the great work.
Thanks for the replies
Sorry to read that, Duarte. Under the same config (Win7 64-bit), FreeCommanderXE rune OK for me. But I do not use it regularly. I could not tell how it goes in the long term. Maybe others could attest, in one way or the other?
Support for FreeCommander can now be obtained by installing the free utility FPconnect developed by Roland Thot.

Folders Popup v4.2 or more recent required.
